About American Style Hustle
Hustle
Hustle is a fun, lively partner dance that became popular during the disco era of the 1970s. Known for its smooth turns, flowing movement, and upbeat energy, it’s perfect for dancing to disco classics and today’s dance music.
Main styles
- New York (Latin) Hustle: the dominant partner style today. Slotted, lots of spins and whips.
- Rope Hustle: an older style with rope-like arm work, more circular.
- Four-count / Line Hustle: the solo line dance (Van McCoy’s “The Hustle”), not a partner dance.
What to Wear
- Wear comfortable clothing that allows freedom of movement and flexibility.
- Choose shoes that you can comfortably walk and dance in.
- If you are not comfortable walking in heels, we recommend selecting a flat shoe or a lower, more stable heel.
- If you are looking for practice shoes, we recommend The Dancer In You.
Please Note: Proper ballroom dance shoes have suede soles and should not be worn outdoors, as this can damage the suede and affect performance on the dance floor.
